All right, it’s almost the end of summer (how did this happen?) so I’m sure we can relate to this gif.

I can’t NOT discuss the 15 year old teenager from Ohio who registered with the Federal Election Commission as “Deez Nuts,” which resulted in him being included in polling data alongside Clinton, Cruz, et al:

In his defense, the fact that the FEC filing paperwork doesn’t ask for age NOR did they actually verify any information means that I’m OK with mainstream media falling for a prank phone call joke from the 90s.

Get ready for more long-form articles about emoji: here’s a short one about creating the Star Wars emoji (which are, let’s be real, the cutest things on earth) and one on the history of the poop emoji (the latter includes this phrase: “You might think the more modern emoji with the smiling face is more charming. We are sympathetic to that argument, but used Gmail's original poop emoji throughout the majority of this story for historical consistency” which is the BEST)

Two oldies but goodies that I re-stumbled upon recently. The first is Katie Baker’s breakdown of her ratings of the New York Times Marriage section and it is beautiful and incredible and I will never read Vows the same way again. The second is this amazing Washington Post story about the Starbucks in the CIA Headquarters in Langley Virginia.

Etcetera: Vintage Ikea. Modular, modernist, wooden cat cubes. Flea (of the Red Hot Chili Peppers) has started his own apiary. 19th Century illustrated book of Japanese falconry.
