Cool things being found: A drought in Mexico has led to an 800-year-old church emerging from the reservoir that it was submerged within! Plus: a long overview of the current archaeological excavations underway at Stonehenge and environs is fascinating.

This “crooked forest” in Poland blows my mind. Folks are pretty sure that the bends are man-made, but how and why are as-yet unknown. About 400 trees are bent, all facing North, surrounded by other trees that are straight.

Long Reads: These are both WAY longer than my usual #longreads so buckle up. First is an explanation of why New York Subway stations don’t have countdown clocks, and it ends up being about 1000x more complex than you think it is. Secondly, a long piece on Medium about selfies. It’s so much more than that - it’s about identity, and how we see ourselves, and the power of personal images in a society that wants to commodify everything.

Who wants to visit the Musée Miniature & Cinéma with me? They have a collection of 100 scaled miniatures that are breathtaking:

Today in Hamilton: Smithsonian Magazine interviewed Lin-Manuel and it’s great.

Etcetera: Bohemian Rhapsody played on a 100 year old fairground organ. Winnie the Pooh’s skull is now on display. The last Hand of Glory in existence.

p.s. So! Some of you careful readers might have noticed that one of my links was a bit off, the link to the Tetris Effect being replaced by The Trouble of Portraying Blackness in Video Games. I hope you read the latter - it’s a great piece, but here is the link for the Tetris Effect in case you’re curious as well.
