internet explorers club | 🎶I will never be the same 🎶

First off, friends. I finally saw Hamilton. I made eye contact with Leslie Odom Jr while I was sobbing and he was singing Wait For It, so my life has reached its peak. Never fear, the newsletter will continue.

As I slowly drift back to earth, I am fascinated and amazed by scandals erupting in the most unlikely of places. Accusations of plagiarism are rocking the World of Crosswords (and a good reason to only do the NYT puzzle, tbh), and there’s a booming trade in smuggling cacti out of the American West. Folks are also now questioning whether or not the scan of the Nefertiti bust (that I talked about last week) was actually what it seemed to be.
Sadie Stein investigated Professor Bhaer from Little Women, and whether or not he is as deserving of the derision most have (myself included) for him:
“You’re my professor Bhaer,” I said experimentally to my husband.
He paled. “That’s the most horrible thing you’ve ever said to me,” he replied.
This only heightened my determination to give Bhaer a fair shake. And so I dove in.

GORGEOUS photos of abandoned launchpads and rockets from The Space Age and it makes me Very Sad to think of the current state of our space program, but I am going to soldier on (and buy the book).
I’m completely fascinated at this look inside Gallaudet’s (a university for Deaf students in Washington DC) designing of spaces to accommodate their students. They’ve designed rooms to have seating in circles or arcs (the better to see signing), acoustically quiet spaces, doors that open automatically (so you don’t have to stop talking to open the door), and this piece really dives into what people should be conscious of when designing for Deaf and DeafBlind individuals.

Recommended viewing: The Witch, a movie set in 17th century Massachusetts backwoods, and is deliciously creepy. Great interview with the director on his inspirations and Rebecca Onion dove into how accurate the mindset of the settlers is (answer: very). Warning: spoilers abound!
Etcetera: Ruth Bader Ginsberg coloring book. Emojilytics for Twitter. Is IT Feminist?
