SO. First things first the trailer for Star Wars VII has officially dropped. That means a few things: Parody trailers! A Lego version of the trailer! Fan art by Phil Noto! Questions about who the voice is in the trailer! (It's Andy Serkis) Is it set on Tatooine?! NO ONE KNOWS (but UGH if it is, isn't this planet supposed to be a backwater? Hello: "If there's a bright center to the universe, you're on the planet that it's farthest from.")

i09 has done a good breakdown of everything. I have high hopes, but we have been burned before (which I was doubly reminded of when people were sharing scenes from the new trilogy to talk lightsabers: this scene reads like a parody of Star Wars missing its MST3K track)

The big thing is theories about about the stupid lightsaber design (the Washington Post has had not one but TWO articles about this)! New ideas for better lightsaber designs! The lightsaber in question:

I'm sorry if some of you who subscribed did not realize what you were signing up for with regard to some DEEP TRACKS about lightsaber design.

Daily reminder that what is considered canon in the Star Wars universe is a complete and utter mess. Also, the new films mean that the entire Extended Universe of books is getting thrown out, so please read Louis Evan's Eulogy for the Extended Universe, and while you're there, Mallory Ortberg's Star Wars Expanded Universe Book Covers And The Feelings I Have Had About Them, Fifteen Years Later.

Look, as a palate cleanser just go look at Phil Noto's art there. Just look at it. It's beautiful.

In other news, IS THERE OTHER NEWS? Kevin Dart did some gorgeous Interstellar posters. Craft memes are out of control. The new Telltale Game of Thrones game drops tomorrow. Daily life in Zero-G, by Marsha Ivans. This site sells old political buttons and it's pretty great.

Next time, more news from our galaxy. I promise.
