Google’s AI that plays Go beat one of the world’s top players with an incredibly unexpected move, and this Wired article is the best coverage I’ve seen because it’s not sensationalist, it’s honest, and at times sweet and sad, which is so rare for a technology piece. I mean, this is how it starts:

At first, Fan Hui thought the move was rather odd. But then he saw its beauty. “It’s not a human move. I’ve never seen a human play this move,” he says. “So beautiful.” It’s a word he keeps repeating. Beautiful. Beautiful. Beautiful.

Long Reads: Kyle Chayak looks into the lifestyle magazine Kinfolk, and regardless of how you feel about Kinfolk, the is worth a read. To follow up: The Kinspiracy. Socality Barbie (which, hilariously, is how I found out Kinfolk existed)

L.A. has been all a-twitter this week because beloved Griffith Park mountain lion P-22 (I mean literally here is a New Yorker profile on him) is suspected of killing a koala at the L.A. Zoo. Good news is that the Zoo still wants P-22 as a neighbor (though they are increasing security measures).

Please make this BB-8 cake for me for all future birthdays:

A piece on people who collect Vaseline glass, which, due to trace amounts of uranium, glows under black lights. I love the side-by-side comparison shots too—glass that you wouldn’t think would glow absolutely does!

This is one of my favorite gifs, so I love that someone made chihuahuaspin.com which tracks how many times you’ve watched it.

Today in Hamilton: Two great articles on how certain actors found Hamilton. Daveed Diggs (Lafayette / Jefferson) talks about despite being cast, he kept expecting to be replaced before Broadway and Anthony Ramos (Laurens / Philip Hamilton) talks about how he never planned on Broadway.

Etcetera: The Institute for Y2K Aesthetics. Someone made a dress from the gravitational waves pattern and it’s gorgeous.
